OSCAM
At the Open Space Contemporary Art Museum (OSCAM) on the Bijlmerplein you will find a place where art, fashion, design and craftsmanship in the Bijlmer come together. It is a museum in the Amsterdamse Poort shopping center in the Zuidoost district. They are located in the old Cool Cat building, diagonally opposite the KFC, between the Panda Bubble Tea Bar and Hunkemöller. You understand, between the fast food chicken, Instagram drinks and sexy lingerie, there is of course a great need for art and culture.
Young talent
OSCAM was opened on the occasion of 50 years of Bijlmer to highlight the cultural diversity of the district. It is a gathering place for art, fashion, design and craftsmanship. The exhibitions change regularly and the focus is on young artists from different (sub)cultures. These can be both known and unknown talents. OSCAM organizes the exhibitions in collaboration with partners from Amsterdam.
The program aims to give even more space to perspectives that are underrepresented in the museum world and in many places in society. Firstly, they curate (existing) works from the established art and culture sector in collaboration with the organizations in the network.
It is very important for the realization of their mission that they explicitly place these works in a secondary context with new work by makers from groups that are underrepresented within those institutions. They see this as a strategy to claim inclusivity within the sector for the foreseeable future and make it happen in their own home.
