Sleazefest

Dating back to 1999, Sleazefest is an iconic, homegrown celebration of DIY rock and punk. This all-night festival gathers local and international bands and DJs out in Het Groene Veld, at the northern border of the city. This year, catch a unique selection of “the best in lo-fi punk, sexy exotica, obscure 50s garage rock and beat”. Presale tickets are sold out, so get there early to grab a door ticket.

Bandgurl666 presents: Thank You So Much + Birds with Jobs + DJ 666

Local indie legend Bandgurl666 (Gigi, to her friends) has been singlehandedly supercharging Amsterdam’s indie, underground and queer/FLINTA scenes for some years: programming at venue Cinetol, promoting band nights and indie dance parties across the city and DJing her own wonky tastes alongside it all. This time at legendary former squat De Nieuwe Anita, Gigi is not only DJing but inviting two live bands: Amsterdam five-piece Birds With Jobs and four-piece Thank You So Much.

Katokye

For fans of: Global folk music, a capella improvisation, Delta blues

Nyege Nyege is a label, collective and festival based in Uganda and celebrated internationally for championing progressive, energetic music from across the region. That very much includes Katokye, a Western Ugandan singer offering a unique take on traditional styles from the Banyankore and Bahororo people. Accompanied by backing singers, John Katokye will improvise hypnotic, poetic songs that can flow on for ten minutes or more. And there’s no place like OCCII for such a special show: one of Amsterdam’s former squats still run by volunteers and preserving the city’s fragile, friendly counterculture.

Kazdoura

For fans of: Khruangbin, Derya Yıldırım, Fairuz

This Toronto-based two-piece offers a modern twist on musical traditions spanning the Levant. Together, Syrian singer Leen Hamo and Lebanese multi-instrumentalist John Abou Chacra fuse regional influences with a groovy mix of funk, soul and psychedelia. Think laid-back, jazzy arrangements always kept soaring by Hamo’s soft, mellifluous voice.

Roda da Holanda

Dust off your samba hat and get a little loose at Toekomstmuziek: Roda da Holanda returns after more than ten years, when a few like-minded musicians came together for love of the genre. This is more than a celebration of Brazilian music; it’s an invitation to take part, dance and sing along.

The Rest is Noise is now a staple of forward-thinking electronic music in the city, and for this bumper edition, they join forces with Nothing Here Now – Transmission Interrupted, a collective championing experimental trans, non-binary, and women artists. Headliner Loraine James returns yet again to the Muziekgebouw, a widely celebrated producer on Hyperdub, combining cerebral, glitchy electronics with bold UK dance music flavours, while both Anysia Kym and 8ULENTINA come all the way from New York to add their own pinches of R&B and SWANA (Southwest Asia and North Africa) influences, respectively.

Anna Marx

For fans of: post-punky pop, liberal eye shadow, Chelsea Wolfe, Fever Ray

Small venue Cinetol attracts a reliable roster of local rising talent and international cult bands. Anna Marx seems poised to shift from the former to the latter, with an infectious brand of dark, synth-forward pop with a healthy dose of gothic edge. Nevertheless, this is Anna’s first-ever live performance, after already making considerable waves on social media and Spotify with her first batch of pristine, punchy singles.

Orchestre Partout Lab #20: Martin Fondse X Háshem Kabreet

For fans of: Arabic(-influenced) jazz, Anouar Brahem, Hossam Ramzy

This free concert in Amsterdam’s jazz centre Bimhuis invites sixteen-piece Orchestre Partout for a “LAB” performance: an entirely new repertoire built over two days. The band is led by pianist and composer Martin Fondse and composed half of other students from the Amsterdam Conservatorium and half of musicians with an Arabic or West Asian background, including Syrian percussionist, handpan player and composer Háshem Kabreet. These influences contribute to a sound between classical, jazz, Arabic and SWANA (Southwest Asia and North Africa) music.

Legendary club RADION occupies part of the ACTA complex: formerly the Amsterdam Academic Centre for Dentistry, but long since a community of creative entrepreneurs and artists, including 75 studios and workspaces. The entire community comes together for this team-up, including a market, live music and barbecue, followed by a club night until late. Iconic venue Melkweg has a long history of providing fertile ground for global, diverse scenes – from Dutch hip hop to metal, punk, and electronic music. This semi-regular night adds Nigerian Afrobeat to the growing list, with DJs and MCs championing music from artists including Asake, Davido and Ayra Starr. Rhythmism

For fans of: crunchy analogue sounds, friendly squat vibes, early finishes

Once a hub for all kinds of alternative music, the “Studios” space in former squat OT301 now concentrates entirely on dance parties. This regular night from local label Lucid Recordings includes live performances and DJ sets by label artists and their wider circle. Expect kaleidoscopic, raw-edged analogue techno, breakbeat and electro in one of Amsterdam’s primary countercultural spaces.

Carista, Prance, Rod

For fans of: techno, techno, techno

Since 2024, RAUM has cemented its place at the centre of queer-run club culture: equally prioritising cutting-edge electronic dance music and maintaining a progressive, safe space for and by queer people. Utrecht legend Carista heads up this techno-centric lineup, alongside fellow Netherlands heavyweights Prance and Rod (Benny Rodrigues).
