Designed by Wim Vesseur
The theatre was put into use in 1968 (design by Wim Vesseur ) as a practical space (laboratory) for the study of theatre science. The stage space could facilitate a so-called fourth wall staging, an open stage, Elizabethan theatre, or a black box space.
In the early years, the University Theater also served as a stage for international (experimental) theater, in collaboration with the Holland Festival and the Mickery Theater .
There has also been a long series of internal productions, in which theater students collaborated in order to build up practical experience with a range of theatrical skills (directing, dramaturgy, acting, adaptations, staging, costume design, theater technique).
