Samar en de bange koning is a comical, magical-realistic performance about a king who is terrified of everything… but especially of elephants.
They are coming. Everyone knows that. And that is exactly the problem. The king locks himself in his castle and lets himself be whispered to by Fear, which sees danger everywhere. To keep the elephants out, he builds walls and invents rules. Everyone must be the same, speak the same, think the same. Deviating is dangerous. Everyone participates. Except for Samar.
Samar is not afraid, not of the elephants and certainly not of the king. She does not want to follow rules that no one really understands. She sees Fear too, but does not take it too seriously. While the king tries to maintain control more and more desperately, Samar makes everything waver.
