A personal story about recovery and resilience
In Survivor's Attitude, Wantee Teelapa tells her own story as a Liberian-Lebanese woman. After 25 years, she returns to her native country of Liberia. That return forms the core of the performance. She explores how art and cultural connection can heal where regular care falls short. It is a personal story, but also a universal story about people who find their strength again after profound experiences.
Music, dance and visual art together on stage
Wantee is not alone on stage. Together with three musicians and two dancers, she builds a surreal world. Music, dance and visual art alternate. The performance breaks taboos surrounding trauma and recovery and makes space for stories that are not always easy to tell.
Shishani as a musical partner
Singer and musician Shishani plays an important role in the performance. With her warm voice and roots in the African musical tradition, she strengthens the emotional layer of Survivor's Attitude. Together with Wantee, a dialogue between personal and shared experiences is created.
