Splendor Kinderconcerten: discover, listen and make music!
Every second Sunday of the month, a different musician takes children aged 4 and up on a musical journey of discovery. This is not a concert where you have to sit still and just listen, but a fun encounter with special instruments, beautiful music and the stories behind the music. Children are allowed to ask questions, take a close look and discover how differently the instruments sound.
TODAY:
Iris presents Sarah with a whole family of recorders, Thomas on trombone, Dave on tuba and Peter on percussion. How different can wind and percussion instruments actually sound?
THE KINDERCONCERTEN
A series of 8 kinderconcerten, every second Sunday of the month for children aged 4 and up. Doors open: 10:30 AM Concert: 11:00 AM – 11:30 AM Meet the musicians & discover the instruments: 11:30 AM – 12:00 PM
What does an oboe sound like up close? Why does a double bass vibrate so beautifully? What happens when you play a ballophone? And what does an instrument you might never have seen before sound like? During the Splendor Kinderconcerten, children are introduced to the world of music in a relaxed and playful way. No big theatre. No sets. No complicated stories. Just real musicians. Real instruments. And a lot of wonder.
Every month, different musicians let you hear their favourite instruments. Wind instruments, string instruments, plucked instruments, percussion, electronic instruments and instruments from all parts of the world will be featured. We tell you a little bit about the music, play short pieces and discover together how differently instruments can sound.
We also make music together. Children, parents, grandparents are invited to join in a simple music game where the audience and musicians form one musical whole together. The children sit on cushions, blankets and chairs, right next to the musicians. You can hardly experience a concert this close anywhere else.
The concert is not over when it ends. From 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM, there is plenty of time to ask questions, meet the musicians and – perhaps best of all – take a close look at the instruments, touch them and even try some of them out.
This way, music becomes not just something to listen to, but something to discover for yourself.
Practical * Every second Sunday of the month. * Doors open at 10:30 AM. * Concert from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM. * Discover instruments and meet musicians from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM. * Children aged 4 and up have free admission (maximum of three children per paying adult). * Parents/guardians, grandparents are of course also very welcome. * Would you rather have a quiet cup of coffee during the concert? Children can also be in the hall independently while you wait in the Splendorbar. * We explicitly request that you do not bring children under 4 to the concert; playing and waiting in the bar (under supervision) is always possible.
A first encounter with music that makes you curious, inspires you and might just be the start of a lifetime of listening pleasure.
THE PROGRAMME
13 September Iris presents trombonist Brandt, trumpeter Christian, drummer Felix, pianist Meika and Antonii on our harpsichord. Antonii also plays an original composition. Brandt also explains how children can compose music themselves for the Nieuwjaarsconcert that is on TV on 1 January. 11 October Iris meets, together with the children, Michiel on the cimbalom, Maarten on bass clarinet, Peter on percussion and Vera on bassoon. The cimbalom and the bassoon are instruments you don't see every day. Vera even shows a special children's bassoon, with which young musicians can start at an early age. 8 November Iris presents Sarah with a whole family of recorders, Thomas on trombone, Dave on tuba and Peter on percussion. How different can wind and percussion instruments actually sound? 13 December Today, the children get to know Emine and the beautiful kemence, a traditional string instrument full of special sounds. Also present: Marieke (violin), Anne La Berge (flutes) and Ties (saxophone). 10 January Marieke presents the concert (instead of Iris, who is on holiday) and of course her own violin, together with Peter on vibraphone, River on double bass and Allard on a huge bass saxophone. A beautiful concert in which strings, percussion and wind instruments meet. 14 February Today, making music is central. Composer Renske shows how a piece of music is created. In addition, Michiel (cello and cimbalom), Bruce (drum kit and hand drums) and Wim on double bass will play. 14 March Iris presents Andrea on harp. And also: Bart with his percussion, Akim on homemade instruments, Aisling on oboe and Vera with fagottinos. 11 April Traditional Strings Festival! A special finale: a musical world tour in an hour! Today, the children walk past the 3 different concert halls of Splendor and get to know special string instruments from different cultures: - Ross lets you hear the Cretan lyra and the tarhu. - Derya and Sokratis play the beautiful kemenche from Istanbul. - Arslan lets the Azerbaijani kamancha sound.
