Circus Zanzara is coming to Cultuurpark Westergas with their new show The Last of the Naïve. De laatste der naïeven takes you to a wondrous toy factory. A world in which everything revolves around producing, performing, and constantly climbing the ladder. The rules are clear, the hierarchy is fixed, and everyone knows their place. At least… that’s how it seems.
What happens when the curtains swing open but the performers aren't ready yet? When technology, emotions and expectations dance together? And when the line between play and reality blurs?
The Last of the Naïve
Jump ropes swing through the air, balls fly past your ears and one toy after another rolls off the assembly line at high speed. But in between the hard work, the employees start to show more of themselves. Friendships, crushes and dreams emerge that cannot simply be pushed aside. Because what happens when people no longer want to just meet what is expected of them?
Slowly, fantasy takes hold of the factory. Order gives way to chaos, working to playing and obeying to making your own choices. And while the urge for control grows ever stronger, it turns out that happiness might be hiding somewhere very different than in success, status and performance.
With a laugh and a tear, this circus theatre family brings to life a world in which acrobatics, aerial acrobatics and juggling merge with theatre. There is flying, climbing, jumping and even foot juggling. Full of humour, wonder and emotion, a performance emerges for young and old, in which people and toys ultimately find it increasingly difficult to be kept in line.
The last of the Naïeve is an ode to fantasy, friendship and love, to the courage to choose your own path and to the child that has remained somewhere inside each of us.
