Frans Hals
Frans Hals ranks alongside Rembrandt and Vermeer as one of the most famous, innovative artists of the Dutch 17th century. Over the centuries, his vivid, loosely-painted portraits of natural, authentic people have inspired visitors and artists, too. Famous modern painters such as Manet and Van Gogh came especially to Haarlem to admire his group portraits of civic guards and other pillars of society. The Frans Hals Museum is located in the old town of Haarlem. On Groot Heiligland, you will find the 17th-century old men's home with atmospheric museum rooms, intimate regent rooms, an 18th-century doll's house and a beautiful courtyard garden. Here, you can see not only the famous paintings by Frans Hals, but also other old, modern and contemporary art. Imagine yourself back in time in the place where Frans Hals himself must have walked.
Frans Hals Museum is largely accessible for wheelchairs, mobility scooters and walkers. Unfortunately, the room of the 18th-century doll's house is not accessible to wheelchair users. The venue has an adapted toilet.
