Maatschappij Arti et Amicitiae (art society)

Maatschappij Arti et Amicitiae is a society for the arts, founded in 1839. This association unites visual artists and art lovers at an impressive building on the Rokin in the centre of Amsterdam. The building houses private meeting areas for the society that date back to the 19th century, as well as monumental exhibition spaces. The interior design was done by architect Berlage.
Art
Arti takes the lead in developing a current, experimental, high-profile exhibition program. Both the local and the global play a major role in this. As an art community, Arti is looking for authentic artists who are aware of their roots and their identity. Artists who seek the freedom to create their own context and chart their own course.
Arti strives for diversity on several fronts: the origin of the exhibiting artists, the multidisciplinary approach to exhibitions and the variety of contexts in which art is created.
Meeting
The society is the meeting place for activities, exhibitions and parties. A warm, hospitable place with good and affordable cuisine for lunch and dinner. Ideal for consultation, discussion and philosophical deepening regarding art in the broadest sense of the word.
Advocacy
Arti strives to act as an advocate for artists. For example, by getting involved in the political debate about the role of art in society, linking members with different expertise, holding consultation hours for questions about professional practice, helping members with subsidy applications and promoting mutual contact. Arti enjoys collaborating with fellow art institutions and art courses of various kinds.
Monument
Arti and its fascinating history are closely linked to the monumental building on Rokin. As an independent art platform, we attach great importance to our visibility and central location in the heart of Amsterdam and are happy to invest in making the characteristic building future-proof.
