Robin Hood in dazzling Technicolor

In The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938), Errol Flynn plays a nobleman who falls out of favor with King John and sides with the poor villagers of Nottingham. With sword, bow, and arrow, and an inexhaustible sense of humor, he goes to battle against injustice. The film was shot using a then-new and expensive color process. The rich, saturated hues are still considered an example of the 'Glorious Technicolor' era.

Errol Flynn at his best

Flynn portrays his Robin Hood with exuberant bravado, charm, and athletic qualities. Director Michael Curtiz, known for Casablanca and Mildred Pierce , made full use of those attributes. Between 1935 and 1941, Flynn and Curtiz collaborated about 10 times, usually with Flynn as the fearless hero. In this film, he also adds a romantic subplot: he attempts to win over his childhood sweetheart, Maid Marian.
