Theme: 1984 Re:Imagined 

In addition to the first Weekend of Terror, another eye-opener took place in 1984: the fact that the world - thankfully - did not look like the dystopian nightmare predicted by writer George Orwell in his literary classic 1984, published in 1949. In honour of the book's 75th anniversary, and because many of Orwell's themes are more relevant today than ever, 1984 is the inspiration for this year's festival theme, 1984 Re:Imagined. By ‘reimagining�� 1984 in 2024, the festival, like Orwell, addresses pressing contemporary issues, but also gives a stage to modern storytellers who dare to speculate on dystopian future scenarios using fiction. Through the lens of the past, this will hopefully give us a grip on the future.

Imagine Expanded: film, games and VR

Imagine Expanded lets fantastic stories and worlds merge the different platforms, film, games and VR. Level Up is a showcase with publicly playable demos of the latest independently produced Dutch and Flemish games. In addition to the makers, various (inter) national guests present. This year we will also be presenting the Imagine VR award for the best VR experience from the international competition. Visit the Imagine Film Festival website for more information.
