CinemAsia Film Festival
CinemAsia Film Festival has been around for 20 years and takes you through versatile Asia for six days from the film theaters Studio/K, Rialto De Pijp and Rialto VU. With films from China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, etc. CinemAsia is one of the largest Asian film festivals in Europe and is a creative platform for Asian representation and makership. From blockbusters and inspiring documentaries to independent productions.
CinemAsia in Amsterdam
Immerse yourself in the dynamic world of Asian films, with compelling stories, stunning visuals and unique cultural perspectives. Discover a varied selection of 54 films , including 33 blockbusters, art-house films and documentaries and 21 short films of various genres from different countries and regions.
Such as the exciting dystopian sci-fi thriller “ 24 Hours with Gaspar ” about private detective Gaspar in Indonesia in 2032. The road trip dramedy “ Ajoomma ” follows a Singaporean widow who experiences her own K-drama when she visits Seoul for the first time.
In the stylish neo-noir “ Only the River Flows ,” life in rural China in the 1990s is disrupted when a woman's body is discovered near the river. Or the unique coming-of-age story “ City of Wind ” about a 17-year-old shaman in the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar who navigates between age-old traditions and the demands of the modern world.
This anniversary year there is a retrospective on 20 years of Asian-Dutch makership and stories about the Asian community in the Netherlands and Europe.
The festival opens with the Telefilm “ Happy Palace ”, in which the persistent clichés in front and behind the hatch of a Chin. Ind. family restaurant are fought for with taste. Afterwards there will be a meet & greet with the cast and crew who are strongly connected to the festival.
As always, in addition to film, CinemAsia also creates space for actual meetings with international makers, Q&As, panel discussions, workshops and there is traditionally the Food Bazaar to tantalize your taste buds.
