What transformations do you see?

In The Art of Transforming, three different subjects take center stage: crossdressing, the Slingelandt Theatre, and the life of revue star Louisette. These histories also inspire contemporary creators.

For instance, photographer Diana Blok captures actors on film, dressed in their dream roles of the opposite sex. Artist Arne Hendriks explores the deeper meaning behind the set changes at the Slingelandt Theatre. And creative producer Danny van Zuijlen is writing a book about the transformation of revue star Louisette.

The exhibition connects historical theatre practices with contemporary research into visibility and (self-)expression. You are invited to look along as a researcher. What transformations do you see? How do you want to come across on stage? What do you show and what remains hidden?
