Museum for street art and graffiti

We focus on curating a collection that truly reflects the international street art movement. We do this by recruiting artists who have each earned their stripes with their own unique story, background, style, and talent. A unique aspect of our collection is that almost all the paintings are created specifically for and in the museum; at STRAAT, the works are created in the same place where the viewer sees them—just like on the street!

Please note: From March onwards, the museum will also be open in the evening on the first Friday of every month, until 9 p.m.

Lucky Dragon by Streetart Frankey

The permanent exhibition at STRAAT Museum on the NDSM shipyard in Amsterdam has been enhanced with a new work: Lucky Dragon by the Dutch artist Frankey, known for his Streetart Frankey series.

Lucky Dragon was originally exhibited during Hong Kong Art Week 2026. The dragon is Frankey’s interpretation of the traditional Chinese dragon dance, a form of dance in which a dragon figure is manoeuvred using poles and which symbolises luck and prosperity.

Frankey drew inspiration for the work from his first visit to Hong Kong in late 2025. He was struck by how often the number 8 recurred in the city — from octagonal design details to the number’s significance as a lucky number in Chinese culture. That discovery led him to a second thought: eight years is also the age at which children still live entirely through imagination and wonder.

These two themes converge in the sculpture: the dragon’s power is rooted in the imagination of ‘Little Frankey’, an eight-year-old version of Frankey himself. In this way, the work is not merely viewed, but also experienced. With Lucky Dragon, Frankey aims to encourage people to reflect on happiness, cultural symbolism and the importance of holding on to one’s imagination, even as an adult.
