Amsterdam Light Festival returns from November 27, 2025 to January 18, 2026 with a new edition, themed Rituals. With 27 works of art in beautiful, photogenic locations, the festival connects and enriches residents and visitors in its anniversary year.
Amsterdam Light Festival has been an annual tradition for over 12 years, lighting up the city during the darkest months of the year. Every edition is different and special, with a different theme every time. Keep an eye on the website for the theme for the upcoming year.
Practical information
The lights go on every day at 5pm. From Sunday to Tuesday they are on until 10pm and from Wednesday to Saturday until 11pm. During the Christmas holidays the lights are on every day until 11pm.
The festival is easily accessible by bike or public transport. Along the route you will find a number of information points and catering establishments.
An information point can be found at the Stoperaplein(Thu-Sun & 21 Dec-5 Jan daily, 16:30-22:00), where enthusiastic volunteers of the festival will be happy to assist you. A special meeting place created in the Hoftuin , (Thu-Sun & 21 Dec-5 Jan daily, 16:30-22:00) will not be missing during the 13th edition.

Accessibility
The route is accessible for people with disabilities. However, please note that the route runs through the historic city centre of Amsterdam, over several bridges and with uneven paving. Not all shipping companies are wheelchair accessible, always check with the shipping company before booking a trip. Limited edition printed route maps are available at the information points, should you wish to remain offline during your visit.
Tickets
The light artworks can be experienced both by boat and by foot. Tickets for the boat and foot experiences can be booked via the festival website . With an audio tour on the tour boat, the festival app and various means of communication, the festival takes visitors along in the theme of the new edition.
