Sudan through the eyes of its inhabitants
In the documentary 10 Times 74, Sudanese photographer and filmmaker Hassan Kamil shows his homeland through the eyes of the people he meets. Their stories are about more than fear and suffering. They are, in fact, about resilience, connection, and community. During a panel discussion, the participants will delve deeper into this theme and discuss the role of local perspectives in the perception of Sudan.
Stories behind the headlines
When did the public last hear a story about Sudan, told by Sudanese people themselves? While one of the world's greatest humanitarian crises continues, much of what is seen and heard about Sudan is reduced to headlines and news reports. Behind those headlines are people trying to continue their daily lives, supporting their communities, caring for their loved ones, and holding onto hope. We Refuse to be Broken is an evening of film and conversation that offers a different perspective.
Personal stories
After the screening, the participants will explore the power of human-centered stories, the importance of perspective, and what becomes possible when people are given the space to tell their own stories. The evening offers visitors the chance to look beyond the headlines and see Sudan through the eyes of the people who know the country best.
