A musical theatre lecture
Water flows through everything. Through landscapes, cities, stories and lives. It gives us food, energy and space to live. At the same time, this indispensable resource is increasingly under pressure. What if water could speak? What would it tell us about the world of today? And what does water think is needed to make a future on our planet possible? In De Stem van Water, the Metropole Orkest, international water expert Henk Ovink and presenter Sophie Hilbrand take the audience on a unique audiovisual journey of discovery through the world of water. With impressive images, compelling music and inspiring stories, an evening unfolds that touches, amazes and makes you think. We travel along with rivers of water vapour in the air, descend to hidden waterways deep underground, and follow the water from the mountains to the ocean. We reveal hidden worlds, discover ancient myths and get a glimpse of the future.

On this journey of discovery, music forms the common thread. For centuries, composers and musicians have been inspired by the power, movement and mysticism of water. In this performance, the Metropole Orkest brings water to life with new compositions by two idiosyncratic composers who do not always swim with the current: Tony Roe and Teis Semey. Plus arrangements of well-known water pieces. Professor Henk Ovink, an internationally leading expert in the field of water and climate adaptation, places the major water issues of our time in an understandable and human perspective. Presenter, actress and programme maker Sophie Hilbrand guides the audience through the evening and brings the stories closer. Together with the Metropole Orkest, a unique mix of music, knowledge and imagination is created. The performance is directed by investigative journalist, director and writer Dirk de Bekker.
