As of July 2, 2026, Rialto VU will continue as Rialto VU Griffioen. In 2021, the Rialto film theater, which had been located on the Ceintuurbaan for over 100 years, moved to a new location at De Boelelaan 1111: Rialto VU. Cultural center VU Griffioen and the VU Art Science Gallery also established themselves in the building. In 2026, it was decided to transfer the actual operation of Rialto VU to VU Griffioen as of July 2, which has extensive experience running the Griffioen film house.

New additional location: Rialto Silo

This autumn, Rialto is opening yet another new location, this time on Zeeburgereiland: Rialto Silo. In light of the efforts required to make that theatre a success, it has been decided to transfer Rialto VU to VU Griffioen.

De Boelelaan 1111 as cultural hotspot

This is further reinforced by the fact that VU Griffioen is also moving from Uilenstede to De Boelelaan 1111 to offer its programs there in 2 theater halls and 10 course rooms. Add to that the arrival of exhibition space VU ART SCIENCE gallery and a truly cozy and inviting café, and the picture is complete: De Boelelaan 1111 is becoming a unique place where studying, living, and working go hand in hand with culture and relaxation.

With 4 state-of-the-art cinema halls, Rialto VU will not only make a special contribution to the cultural life on the VU Campus, but the arrival of Rialto VU also represents a major cultural enrichment for local residents in Buitenveldert, the Zuidas, and Amstelveen, among others.
