Marcel van Roosmalen stands alone on the stage of De Kleine Komedie in Amsterdam. In his show Ik mag niet klagen (reprise), he takes you along in his view on life. He is known for his razor-sharp formulations about human shortcomings, and these are present in abundance in this show.

An Arnhemmer with a reputation

Van Roosmalen grew up in Arnhem, where he is held in high regard. Outside those city limits, it is different. His outspoken way of writing and performing makes him feared, but also loved. He is now known as the Arnhemmer des Vaderlands, a title he himself bears with mixed feelings.

Complaining is allowed, but actually not

After thirty years on the fringes, Van Roosmalen is experiencing his Grote Doorbraak: full halls, solo. Complaining is not obvious then. Yet, on stage, he explores exactly that field of tension. It results in a show that is sharp, self-deprecating, and recognizable.
