Akhnaton

Akhnaton in Amsterdam is a café/hall/society founded by students. In 1953 a number of Catholic students founded a new association: “the Societas Studiosorum Catholicorum Amstelodamensis Akhnaton.” Named after the legendary pharaoh Akhnaten who, like this association, wanted to break with old traditions and customs about 1350 BC. Since that time, the association has been housed in various locations. In 1971 the current buildings on the Nieuwezijds Kolk were moved into.
