Please note: The museum will be closed from 16 June due to the renovations. They will reopen in 2026 at our new location: Paulus Potterstraat 6. Discover 400 years of diamond history in Europe’s only Diamond Museum and find out why Amsterdam is called the “City of Diamonds”. The museum takes you on a journey that starts 3 billion years ago, 200 km below your feet and ends up in the ring on your finger. The hero of this journey is the diamond. The world’s hardest material, the gemstone with a never-ending sparkle. Be prepared to be amazed.
The history of the diamond
The permanent exhibition of the museum, Brilliant Beauties, takes the visitor on a journey through the history of the diamond in ten themes. Changing exhibitions can be seen on the second floor.
Amsterdam Diamond City
The city of Amsterdam and diamonds are inextricably linked. The history of Amsterdam Diamond City starts in 1586 and lives on to this day. Yet the eventful history of the diamond is not well known to everyone. The Diamant Museum Amsterdam reveals the stories behind the diamond with films, photos, jewelery, historical documents and of course diamonds (real and n (i) et real).
Golden Times
In the 19th and early 20th century in particular, Amsterdam was the heyday of the world's diamond knowledge center. It is not for nothing that world-famous stones such as the Koh-I-Noor and the Cullinan were cut by Amsterdam diamond dealers. More than 400 years of diamond history in combination with tourism has shaped Amsterdam into the largest diamond city in the world.
Special Diamonds
Diamonds of all shapes and sizes can be seen in the Diamant Museum Amsterdam. A special part of the exhibition is the Diamond Experience where the visitor enters the heart of the diamond and will encounter many celebrities. Diamond lovers can find an extensive range of genuine diamonds and jewelery in the museum shop.
