Location
Sports providers open their doors
This week is entirely dedicated to sports and physical activity. From introductions to specific sports to events where multiple, often lesser-known sports come together. Think of trial lessons, workshops, demos, and challenges where fun and participation come first. National Sports Week is your chance to experience sports in a different way.
Join in and discover how much energy and fun sports can give.
During the annual summer drinks reception, the National Sports Week Awards were ceremoniously presented by Alderman for Sport Floor Gordon. These awards were made possible by health insurer Zorg en Zekerheid, a partner of the National Sports Week in Amstelveen. This encourages local sports and physical activity providers to organize innovative and accessible activities during the National Sports Week.
Varied events program
The program starts on Friday, September 18, with the TeamNL Kids 10@10 Challenge XXL for primary school students. This is followed by the official opening and the evening program of AmstelveenDance in the Old Village. On Saturday, September 19, the Old Village will be all about wheels during Amstelveen On Wheels, featuring a Fat Tire Race and skate clinics, among other events.
On Sunday, September 20, the Fly Kids Festival takes place in Park Middenhoven, featuring a demonstration match by TeamNL players. In addition to the Sports Week Walk on Friday, September 25, starting from Villa Randwijck, martial arts enthusiasts can attend the Self-Defense Day at the Ben Goudsmithal on Saturday, September 26. The week concludes on Sunday, September 27, with the Multi-Event Experience at De Meerkamp Swimming Pool, where swimming instructors and clubs provide trial lessons.
Moving on your own in public space
In addition to the organized offerings, residents are encouraged to seek out the public sports facilities in Amstelveen on their own. At locations such as the Beweegbank, the Urban Gym at De Poel, the KWIEK Exercise Route in Westwijk, the QR route around De Poel, and the AmstelveenSport Exercise Square, participants can train at their own level. As an extra during National Sports Week: special instructional classes are offered at all these public exercise locations to help participants get started.
