Mitsuko Uchida stands alone with her interpretation of the Viennese classics. Beethoven's Second Piano Concerto is an early work that is performed less frequently than later piano concertos. Nowhere do the influences of Haydn and Mozart resonate so strongly in Beethoven's work as in this concerto, full of cheerful and surprising discoveries. Bruckner

In the Vienna of Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven, Anton Bruckner's Third Symphony was created some hundred years later. But it seems to come from a completely different world: epic, mesmerizing, and sometimes downright overwhelming. Bruckner dedicated the work to Richard Wagner, whose operas he ardently admired. He himself had no theatrical ambitions, yet there is no lack of drama here whatsoever. And it is music by a perfectionist, for Bruckner made no fewer than six versions before he was satisfied.
