Grote Pianisten: Arcadi Volodos

A modest giant: pianist Arcadi Volodos. For this Russian, a storyteller behind the grand piano with his velvety touch, poetry and silence are the keywords. Volodos is a regular guest in the Great Pianists series. His program tonight includes works by Brahms, Schubert, and Schumann.

Arcadi Volodos

Pianist Arcadi Volodos prefers to be a storyteller at the grand piano. The Russian is very modest about his role as a musician; he calls the composers the true creators, for what ultimately remains is the work, not the player. In his performances, Volodos seeks out poetry, thoughtfulness, even silence, and he does so exclusively in solo recitals—the pressure and short rehearsal time of a concert pianist are not his cup of tea. Tonight's program includes works by Brahms, Schubert, and Schumann with which he feels a close connection.
