Nuba

The nuba is a fusion of music and poetry, comparable to a suite in Western classical music. It forms the pinnacle of classical Arabo-Andalusian music. The versatile musician Ziryab perfected the nuba in his music school in 9th-century Córdoba and created an oeuvre of 24 nubats, one for each hour of the day. Inspired by the tradition perfected in Córdoba and rooted in Moroccan lore, three special nubats come to life tonight: the virtuosic and festive Raml Maya , the refreshing Al-Hijaz Al-Kabeer , and Nuba Al-Istihlal . With classical compositions from the album Andalusian Currents , released in 2025, a sparkling Chaabi Andalusi medley, and a spiritually charged finale, tonight's program is a musical journey through time, culture, and emotion.

Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra

The Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra was founded in 2011 by young Amsterdam and Moroccan musicians and creative minds. They shared a love for the expressiveness and scope of Andalusian culture, Al-Andalus, which is characterized by a cultural blend of Arab, Amazigh, Jewish, Islamic, and Christian traditions. With a multifaceted approach that combines music with dance, theater, and storytelling, the AAO not only brings traditional sounds to life but also creates new art forms.
