A family drama full of old wounds and secrets
Theatre company Dronken Mensen presents Het Zouthuis, written by Peer Wittenbols. Brothers and sisters gather in their parental home for an evening that was supposed to offer comfort. But beneath the surface, long-standing tensions simmer. Sister Willy has secretly put the house up for sale. Brother Bore humiliates the youngest, Benja, at every opportunity. And brother-in-law Theodoor is tolerated by the entire family with visible discomfort.
Razor-sharp humour about human stumbling
Peer Wittenbols is known as one of the Netherlands' most celebrated playwrights. In Het Zouthuis, he shows how difficult it is to truly be there for one another, especially at the moments when it is needed most. With humour and a sharp eye for human behaviour, he draws a recognisable portrait of a family that knows each other through and through, yet lives past one another.
On location at Treehouse NDSM
Dronken Mensen is not performing Het Zouthuis in a traditional theatre hall, but on location at Treehouse NDSM at T.T. Neveritaweg 55-57 in Amsterdam. That choice enhances the atmosphere of the play: you are right in the middle of the story. Are you interested in this performance? Use the link on this page to book tickets.
