Between Almere and Lelystad lies the extraordinary Oostvaardersplassen nature reserve, where nature decides the rhythm of things. Life in the Oostvaardersplassen has been wonderfully captured in the film 'The New Wilderness'.

Natural history documentary

Over two years, various film teams followed foxes, geese, kingfishers, deer and Europe’s largest herd of wild horses. The result was a natural history documentary the likes of which had never been seen in the Netherlands before. Would you like to discover the reserve for yourself? Ample opportunities exist to do so: Go on a safari with a forest ranger, get on your bike or download ‘The New Wilderness iTour’ on your smartphone and get going.

Binoculars

You can take a well deserved rest when you reach the welcoming bar in the De Oostvaarders nature experience centre on the Almere side, or alternatively rest your legs in the Buitencentrum in Lelystad. Both visitors centres provide binoculars for spotting the animals in the reserve.
