History of the VOC

The replica of the VOC ship Amsterdam has been at the jetty of the Maritime Museum since 1991. What started as an employment project for young people at a time with high unemployment, has become the place to learn more about the history of the VOC.

There are many stories to be told about this ship and they are shared at The Maritime Museum. Here you will learn more about life on board, our colonial history and why this replica ship was created in the 1980s.
