Groot Melkhuis - the Grand Café with a playground in the middle of the Vondelpark - has been given a new look. The new owners have been busy breathing new life into the urban oasis, without losing any of its character. With terrace service, new patio furniture, a fresh interior, updated menu and jeu de boule courts, it is a place where you can escape the hustle and bustle of the city with and without children.
The playground of Groot Melkhuis is known to almost everyone who grew up in Amsterdam. “It is essentially one of the most idyllic places in Amsterdam.
The iconic playground has been expanded with new kiddy rides and to entertain the smallest visitors, there is a puppet show player during the summer months. In addition to picking up food, there is also the option to be served on the terrace and the restaurant has been given a new look inside.
Inside and outside just a bit different than before
Not only the inside, but also the outside has changed. The spacious layout and several terraces make it an excellent place to celebrate birthdays, family days, (networking) drinks and children's parties. Children's parties are organized around the bouncy castle for the little ones. For adults, the front terrace offers space for up to 200 people. Although the Groot Melkhuis is located in a free green area, the terraces are brightened up and surrounded by various trees and plants, including olive trees, citrus trees and lots of lavender. This will hopefully make it a 'garden for all Amsterdammers'.
Groot Melkhuis for breakfast or lunch
There is no better way to start the day than with your newspaper and your cup of coffee on the terrace. With an adapted menu, you can now also enjoy breakfast (until 12:00) and lunch, including avocado toast and fresh sandwiches, and chicken satay for dinner, various burgers and Neapolitan pizzas from the Pizza Project wood oven.
