Romantic hotel rooms and suites

As one of Europe's best destinations for couples, Amsterdam scores high on the romance scale. With a historic city centre straight out of a fairy tale, a picturesque canal network criss-crossed by fairy lit bridges and an endless choice of romantic restaurants and candlelit bars to cosy up in, the city makes a picture-perfect backdrop to a city break for couples. Of course, no romantic break would be complete without somewhere extra special to lay your head. Here’s our pick of the most unique, luxurious or downright decadent hotel rooms and suites in Amsterdam, ideal for an extra-special occasion or an indulgent Valentine’s break.

Conservatorium

Shhh, don’t tell. This plush pad tucked away atop the swanky Conservatorium hotel is one of Amsterdam’s best kept secrets and easily of the most impressive boltholes in Europe.  A three-tiered playground of mezzanines, spiral staircases and wooden beams, this secluded suite has everything you ever could dream of for a romantic Amsterdam break. Or in fact everything you could ever dream of, full stop. Once you’ve picked your jaw up off the immaculate hardwood floor, couples can luxuriate in the sunken stone bath with skyline views, lounge in any one of your sitting areas or step out onto your private roof terrace for a sunset glass of Champagne with panoramic city views.

The Dylan

Nestled in the eaves of the achingly elegant Dylan Hotel, this bright and airy loft suite makes for a romantic luxury hideout for couples perched above Amsterdam’s street and canals. Cocooned by an apex of beautiful oak beams, the room is a peaceful, light filled haven with king sized bed, luxurious bathroom with garden views from the tub and walk-in rain shower.

Pulitzer Amsterdam

One for the true romantics; the Pulitzer Suite at the beautiful Pulitzer Amsterdam is a tribute to lovers the world over. Named after Mr Pulitzer - himself a  die hard romantic – this wistful suite will tug at your heartstrings with an eclectic mix of historical detail, antique furniture and modern amenities, marrying the old and the new in homage to great love stories. A freestanding bath and super king sized bed form the centre piece of the suite; just two of the reasons you’ll never want to leave your room.

Sir Albert Hotel

Live the modern aristocratic lifestyle (for a night at least) at this luxurious boutique hotel in De Pijp. A range of suites are available – including the exclusive two bedroomed Sir Albert Residence - but we prefer the one bedroom Sir Albert Suite for amorous aristos, which has a free standing bathtub as its centrepiece as well as separate rainforest shower, fluffy bathrobes and lots of complimentary treats.

The Hoxton

One of The Hoxton’s signature concept rooms, The Tubby is named after its freestanding in-room bathtub and is hidden away up a staircase in the attic for maximum seclusion. Nestled under the original canal house wooden beams, the luxurious loft has a sofa for two and a luxe bathroom with walk-in shower.

Inntel Hotel Zaandam

Made up of 70 stacked houses, this quirky hotel is located in Zaandam, just north of Amsterdam. The hotel’s royal suite is designed entirely in the style of the Tsar Peter House, Zaandam’s oldest house, and offers an unusual layout to match the hotel’s eccentric façade with a raised box bed (don’t hit your head on the ceiling), exceptional design features and a super swanky bathroom with Alessi fixtures.

Hotel de Windketel

What could be more romantic than an overnight stay in your own private tower? Hotel de Windketel is a free-standing three floor tower in the middle of the Watertorenplein in Amsterdam West, built in 1897 and now converted into a luxury tower apartment for two. The circular bedroom at the top of the tower is a bright yet secluded space under a wooden ceiling, with a romantic in-room bathtub with views of the sky.

Bloemendaal Sea Lodges

There are few sounds to fall asleep and wake up to more romantic than that of the waves lapping onto a nearby shore. And just half an hour West of Amsterdam, you’ll discover the coastal gem of Bloemendaal, with its colourful beach bar and luxurious sea cabins set in the wild dune landscape. The cabins come in a range of styles suitable for families and groups, but the cosy Sea House Adventure offers just enough luxury for two.

Park Centraal Hotel

Imagine yourself as Rapunzel in your very own tower room with panoramic views over the Vondelpark and the canals. Located at the top of the elegant Park Centraal Hotel, this luxurious suite features a unique round bed, a double walk-in rain shower and a freestanding bath, where you can quietly wonder why on earth Rapunzel wanted to escape from such a divine room.
