How does the card work?

Getting your card
You can order your card online or buy it at one of our three visitor centres. If you make your purchase online, you can opt to have it shipped home, to your hotel or pick it up once you’re here. If you’re already in town, you can pick it up straight away – there’s no processing time to take into account. For more information about pick-up locations and delivery options, check out Sales & Pick-up points.

Planning your visit
The card comes with a booklet, map and magazine, so you can start planning your trip as soon as it arrives. You can already download the I amsterdam City Card app  for a full list of what’s on offer and mark your personal favourites, browse our website for suggestions and check out some of our recommended itineraries.

Using your card
Your City Card is activated when you first use it. If you, for example, chose a validity of 24 hours, it will run out 24 hours after activating it. To gain entrance to attractions, show your City Card at the ticket counter. Some locations even let you skip the line! The Van Gogh Museum requires you to book a time for your visit in advance. You can easily reserve your timeslot online, which means you’ll be guaranteed entry at the time of your choice. When using public transport, simply scan your Card. Don’t forget to check out when you exit! For freebies and discounts, you can show your City Card at the participating location. When you’re at a restaurant, make sure you mention your card discount before ordering.
