ADE welcomes some of the world’s biggest DJs to Amsterdam, and that is often reflected in the ticket prices. Luckily, some amazing parties and inspiring events are free to attend. We’ve selected some of the best free events during Amsterdam Dance Event 2025.

Artist Anouk Kruithof has created an impressive collage of videos about the universal nature of dance. In this exhibition, expect to see all kinds of different people from different cultures dancing with abandon. If there's one thing a visit to Universal Tongue guarantees, it's that you'll end the day feeling more connected than when you started.

Book launch party Sjaakmat: a hip-hop life

Books about Dutch-language hip hop can be counted on one hand, but a new publication is on its way, and what a publication it is! Historian Niels Graaf has written a book about the Amsterdam rapper Sjaak, whom he describes as ‘the former terror of Oost, hit machine, language innovator, actor, uncrowned city poet and teacher of a new generation of rappers’. We can't say much about the content of the book, but it looks like it's going to be a fun get-together. Sjaak and his mates will be there. Will you?

Tomorrowland Expo

The Belgian electronic music festival Tomorrowland is perhaps the best known and largest of its kind. Last summer, it was in the news after the iconic main stage, which is given a new fairy-tale theme every year, burned down. Despite this, the festival continued as usual after a few tense moments. This exhibition shows how Tomorrowland started in 2005 as a relatively modest festival and has grown over the years into an event of mega proportions that everyone secretly wants to attend at least once.

Richie Hawtin Instore

When you say ADE, you say instore performances - free performances in record shops throughout the city centre. Black Gold has a special artist in the booth. Richie Hawtin grew up in Canada, but so close to the American border town of Detroit that he was irrevocably infected by the techno virus that originated there. Richie's career has gone through a number of phases, each characterised by a new sound. So what he's going to do is a big surprise: will he stick to his usual style, mix up the sub-genres, or come up with something completely new?

Roland Instruments x Rush Hour store

The synthesisers and drum computers of the Japanese brand Roland were launched in the early 1980s for bands without a bassist or drummer. With the 303, 808 and 909 devices, you could pre-program rhythms to accompany your guitar playing and singing. No one used the devices as intended – instead, they were misused: the bass lines from the device formed the backbone of the acid house that emerged in the mid-1980s. Roland has long been proud of what others have achieved with their products. Throughout the weekend, you can try out the machines under supervision at Rush Hour, the well-known music shop on the west side of Dam Square.

Whether you’re recovering from the night before or gearing up for the day ahead, LOT61’s Coffee Rave at the DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Central Station is the perfect way to reset and refuel. One of the city’s favourite roasters team up once again with Freequency Events for their signature sober morning party, serving high-energy beats, exceptional coffees, and an atmosphere that bridges the gap between nightlife and daylight. Upstairs, LuminAir, the hotel’s famous rooftop cocktail bar, will also be hosting a series of ADE events throughout the week.

Sunday 26 October, 10:00 | Hilton Amsterdam Central Station, Oosterdokstraat 4 | more info

Rooted in Culture

For the fourth time, Rooted in Culture presents a programme during ADE on social issues in nightlife, this time with the theme: female representation. American DJ and scientist Lynnée Denis will moderate a discussion followed by a delightful dance session with Leroy Rey and Chill behind the turntables.

Saturday 25 October, 12:30 – 19:00 | Internationaal Theater Amsterdam, Leidseplein 26 | more information

Nous’ Klaer X On Board

As it does every year, Nous’ Klaer, a Rotterdam label for underground electronic music, is hosting a free rave in the Houthavens, at club Borisov. This time, the approach is slightly different, as label owner Sjoerd Oberman has asked the team behind his friends at On Board Music to help with the programming. The line-up would not be complete without Oberman himself, and he will be joined by Vera Logdanidi, a remarkable talent from Ukraine, among others. This evening will particularly appeal to lovers of music that is both danceable and trippy.

Saturday 25 October, 14:00 – 03:00 | Borisov, Rigakade 10 | more information

The Disco Express

Missed the rave train or couldn’t snag tickets for The Disco Express? No worries — cross the street and hop into art’otel instead. Down in the hotel's gallery, London’s disco legends are rolling in for a glittering night of nu-disco, soulful house and irresistibly funky vibes, celebrating their 100th release in true feel-good fashion. Expect smiling faces, unstoppable dancing and a party that shines from start to finish. And don’t worry — the toilets here are never occupied, the Wi-Fi actually works (not that you’ll have time to check your phone), and the groove is guaranteed to keep you on track all night long.
