Bizarre night
Desperate to escape his mind-numbing routine, office worker Paul Hackett (Griffin Dunne) ventures into midtown Manhattan with a mysterious woman (Rosanna Arquette). Thus begins the wildest night of his life, where bizarre incidents—involving underground art punks, a troubled waitress, a deranged Mister Softee truck driver, and a bagel and cream cheese paperweight—mount with a terrifying relentlessness, thwarting his attempts to get home. With this Kafkaesque cult classic, Martin Scorsese, immersed in the kinetic cinematography of Michael Ballhaus and the breathtaking supporting cast of Linda Fiorentino, Teri Garr, Catherine O'Hara, and John Heard, directs a darkly comic tale of mistaken identity, transforming the desolate nocturnal world of 1980s SoHo into a bohemian wonderland of surreal menace.
