For Moving Talent, pianist Gabriel Crist has chosen a program centered on Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Not only will Mozart's own music be performed, but Crist will also demonstrate how composers continue to be inspired by him to this day. Gabriel Crist plays a Mozart piano sonata and performs as soloist in a piano concerto in the chamber music version that Mozart himself composed for piano and strings. Additionally, Michael Nyman's In Re Don Giovanni will be performed, a contemporary reflection on Mozart's famous opera. This creates a program in which Mozart's music is heard from various perspectives.

Jonathan Dove's An Airmail Letter from Mozart

Jonathan Dove’s chamber music work An Airmail Letter from Mozart forms the heart of this program. Dove imagines Mozart traveling the world today, writing letters to his wife Constanze along the way. For this imaginative composition, he used themes from Mozart’s Divertimento KV 287, among others. Around An Airmail Letter from Mozart, a program unfolds in which Mozart is heard again and again: in his own music, in his own arrangement of a piano concerto, and in the compositions by Jonathan Dove and Michael Nyman. In this way, Gabriel Crist demonstrates how Mozart’s music continues to inspire new music.
