ADE: Kara-Lis Coverdale & Lia Kohl

The Concertgebouw kicks off Amsterdam Dance Event with Kara-Lis Coverdale and Lia Kohl. Two artists and sound artists who explore the intersections between electronic, classical, and human creativity in the intimate setting of the Small Hall. Between and after the concerts, DJ Fenna Fiction will provide the music in the foyer.

Kara-Lis Coverdale
Kara-Lis Coverdale, also known as K-LC, is a Canadian composer, musician, and producer from Montreal, Quebec. In her music, she subtly blends electronic and traditional instruments to create works that transcend reality. The Guardian called her 'one of North America's most exciting composers'. She is a pioneer in the vast borderland between acoustic and electronic music. In this concert, she plays solo piano.
Lia Kohl
Composer and sound artist Lia Kohl lives and works in Chicago. She is a cellist, but also incorporates synthesizers, field recordings, toy instruments, radios, and much more into her work. A good example of her curiosity, which she constantly combines with great virtuosity. She is particularly drawn to audio that speaks to the moment, such as field recordings, improvisation, radio broadcasts, and transmissions. She often focuses on everyday or inconspicuous sounds—sounds that go unnoticed—in search of the profound, the unknown, and the beautiful in daily life.
DJ Fenna Fiction
Fenna Fiction is a collage artist by nature and approaches DJing in the same way as her visual work: she weaves the familiar into unexpected stories. She creates musical journeys for the moments in between: soundtracks for road trips, daydreams, early mornings, or sleepless nights.

Amsterdam Dance Event at the Concertgebouw
Since 2013, Het Concertgebouw has presented one or more special concerts during ADE that explore the intersections between electronic, classical, and timeless music – whether or not specifically tailored to the setting of the halls. Guests in recent years have included Weval, MEUTE, Young Marco, Jarreau Vandal, Legowelt, Lamsi, Darkside, Junkie XL, and Nils Frahm, among others. After DJ Sasha's performance in 2014, 3voor12 wrote about electronic music at Het Concertgebouw: 'If God was a DJ, he wants this to be his house'!
