Misha Fomin
With his playing, rich in tonal nuances and a full, warm tone, pianist Misha Fomin embodies the Russian piano tradition. Fomin has been working for several years on a Beethoven project in which he is recording all thirty-two of Beethoven's piano sonatas. Opus 7 is an early work by Beethoven in which playfulness, vibrant energy, and humor reign supreme. The Sonata 'Für Thérèse' , Op. 78, stands out for its refinement, lyricism, and clarity.
Schubert and Brahms
Schubert uses a theme of his own in the Impromptu, Op. 142 No. 3, a work full of tension, emotion, beautiful melodies, and sparkling passagework. Brahms based his Variations on a famous theme by Paganini from Caprice No. 24. Although the work is known for its extreme technical difficulty—Clara Schumann called it 'witch variations' for this reason—behind the virtuosity lies harmonic depth and musical creativity. Fomin has made his own selection of variations from Book I and Book II.
