Musicians from three countries on one stage

De kracht van percussie brings together four musicians who each represent their own tradition. Farid Sheek plays the daf, a Persian instrument with roots in the Sufi tradition. Kalanyit Das plays sitar in the style of the Senia Maihar Gharana, a classical Indian playing tradition. Ruben van Rompaey connects Turkish and Middle Eastern rhythms with jazz and fusion on the darbuka. Sandip Banerjee, All India Radio Grade A artist, plays tabla.

Rhythm as a common language

During the concert, the musicians engage in a conversation with each other through improvisations and rhythmic interaction. The sitar provides melodic colour, while the percussion instruments together build a layered rhythm. The interplay shows how different musical traditions can strengthen each other without losing their own character.
