From loneliness to symbiotic love

Beforehand, The Great Alone will be performed, a new large choral work with percussion and cello, composed especially for this program by the Dutch composer Rob Zuidam. Drawing on diverse sources, he explores the feeling of profound cosmic loneliness—captured by Enrico Fermi in the question 'But where is everybody?'. An evening that takes you from the greatest loneliness to the celebration of symbiotic love between two people.

A brand new choral work

Distance and reunion are also central to The Great Alone , a brand-new choral work by Dutch composer Rob Zuidam. He drew inspiration from the fascinating Fermi paradox: if the universe is so vast, full of potentially habitable planets, why have we never found extraterrestrial life? Or as physicist Enrico Fermi said: “But where is everybody?”

The two works are connected by Four Songs of Love by Sven-David Sandström. In this work, the Swedish composer reveals all facets of love: from devout and spiritual to tender and vulnerable.
