It's Snowing On My Piano
For many people, the 1997 solo piano album It's Snowing On My Piano by Norwegian jazz pianist Bugge Wesseltoft is synonymous with the Christmas season. Yet, it is anything but a typical Christmas album. From the very first note, the meditative power of this music becomes evident, creating an oasis of calm and peace—a state that seems even more precious today than it did then. Since then, Bugge Wesseltoft has performed the album's music live time and again—and reinterpreted it each time. The compositions and melodies serve as a starting point for musical meditations. After nearly 20 years, it was time to capture this development—and so, in early 2026, It's Still Snowing on My Piano marked the release of the first live version of the beloved album.
It's still snowing on my piano
The recent live recording It's still snowing on my piano sounds familiar and new at the same time. The melodies of most of the original compositions have been retained. Wesseltoft's approach to the pieces is not one of deconstruction or recomposition, but rather of a thoughtful traversal and exploration of the spaces between the notes. It is precisely in this way that entirely new music emerges within the tracks. It seems as if every preceding note points the way to the next, as if every branch is followed by the next. Often, it seems as if Wesseltoft himself is both player and listener. During the recordings for the original album, his daughter Maren sat on his lap—not a typical relationship between artist and audience, but rather one of shared listening and feeling. The same applies to the concerts and in the living room. And it is precisely this sense of connection between musician and listener that constitutes the special magic of this music.
