About Amiri Harewood
He made his Dutch debut at the Grachtenfestival in 2025, performed at the Royal Albert Hall with the orchestra Chineke!, and was a Classic FM Rising Star that same year. In this recital, he juxtaposes core repertoire by J.S. Bach with contemporary music by the British composer Thomas Adès and the Nigerian Joshua Uzoigwe, with dance as a common thread.
Bach's French Suite No. 4 and Partita No. 4 are composed of a series of characterful dances, each with its own atmosphere and tempo. Adès, a gifted pianist himself, engages in a dialogue with Chopin's mazurkas and virtuously brings them into the here and now. Finally, Egwu Amala by the Nigerian composer Uzoigwe is performed, which refers to a dance traditionally performed by the women of the Aboh and Ogbaru communities.
Outdoor concert
The terrace concerts take place outdoors. Right by the water, the sun can be strong and it can be quite windy, so please be prepared for this. In case of bad weather (rain and/or strong winds), we will move the performance indoors to the Entrance Hall, with a view over the IJ.
