In November 2026, during the Ud Festival, the spotlight will once again be fully on the ud, the versatile Arabic lute. With its rich sound and countless possibilities, the ud has influenced musical traditions around the world and today serves as a catalyst for experimentation between musicians from different cultures. During this Terrace Concert, four musicians from the Amsterdam Andalusian Orchestra, together with Greek ud player Nikos Avgoustidis and Syrian-Dutch clarinet player Ghaeth Almagooth, will give an exclusive preview.

Exclusive preview of the International Ud Festival

Oud player and multi-instrumentalist Nikos Avgoustidid is primarily interested in Arabic, Turkish, and Greek folk music. With his expressive playing, he is an interpreter of the emotional and melodic richness of the maqam tradition. Ghaeth Almaghoot is a Syrian-Dutch clarinetist, composer, and improviser who further developed his musical career in the Netherlands after fleeing Syria in 2015. His music connects Middle Eastern traditions with influences from the Balkans and jazz. With a warm, expressive sound and a strong focus on improvisation, he creates a unique musical story at every performance.

The Ud Festival

The Ud Festival takes place from 3–21 November 2026 at various venues throughout the country. The final of the accompanying Ud Competition for emerging talent takes place at the Muziekgebouw on 21 November.

Outdoor concert

The terrace concerts take place outdoors. Right by the water, the sun can be strong and it can be quite windy, so please be prepared for this. In case of bad weather (rain and/or strong winds), the performance will move indoors to the Entrance Hall, with a view over the IJ.
