Ferries to Amsterdam
Ferries provide a comfortable and scenic way to reach Amsterdam, especially from the United Kingdom. Three major ferry operators serve the city:
DFDS Seaways operates daily cruises from Newcastle to IJmuiden. From IJmuiden, Amsterdam is accessible by car via the A9 and A10 motorways, by DFDS coach service to Central Station, or by taxi. Note that taxis can be expensive, with fares around €60 each way.
Stena Line offers twice-daily ferries from Harwich to Hoek van Holland. From there, Amsterdam is approximately a 1 hour and 20-minute drive. Alternatively, trains connect Hoek van Holland to Amsterdam in about 1 hour and 45 minutes.
P&O Ferries provides nightly crossings from Hull to Rotterdam Europoort. The drive to Amsterdam takes about 90 minutes. P&O also offers a coach service from Europoort to Rotterdam Central Station, with regular trains to Amsterdam.
