
How to use the City Card on public transport (GVB)
Find out how to use the I amsterdam City Card on public transport.
The I amsterdam City Card can be used for public transport within Amsterdam on all GVB modes of transport, including metro, trams and buses. Ferries are free of charge and do not require a card.
The City Card cannot be used for train travel.
To use the I amsterdam City Card on public transport:
- Tap the physical card against the check-in sensor at the entrance to the metro, bus, or tram. If you have a digital card, place the phone with the QR code directly under the scanner. If this doesn't work, seek assistance from an employee.
- When you exit the vehicle, make sure to check out the same way by tapping the card again or scanning the QR code.
