Western Garden Cities, world famous

Amsterdam New – West is the pinnacle of post-war urban development and architecture in the Netherlands. Under Van Eesteren's leadership, the General Extension Plan (AUP) was drawn up in 1935, his urban development plans were revolutionary. The functional city was central; living, working, recreation and traffic were separated. The houses were built according to the principles of Nieuwe Bouwen; light, air and space, in other words sunlight and fresh air for every home.

Indoor museum

The indoor museum is located in the Van Eesteren Pavilion on the north bank of the Sloterplas. Opened in October 2017, the Van Eesteren Pavilion is the beating heart of the museum, with a permanent exhibition about Cornelis van Eesteren, the construction of Amsterdam Nieuw-West and changing exhibitions. There is also a small museum café.

Outdoor museum

The Van Eesteren Buitenmuseum is located in Slotermeer, the neighborhood in the immediate vicinity of the pavilion. It is a 'living' open-air museum, the 'collection' consists of houses, public gardens, schools, shops, parks, squares and streets. The Van Eesteren Museum offers guided walks, bicycle, boat and bus tours. Take a trip in the garden city!

1950s Museum house

The 50s museum house in Slotermeer is furnished according to the principles of Stichting Goed Wonen. The house can be visited from Thursday to Sunday. The visit starts at the pavilion, from here you walk, accompanied by a guide, to the house and back in about 15 minutes.

Events

In addition, the Van Eesteren Museum takes part in various events and there is a regular Van Eesteren Conversation, a debate about a relevant subject with various speakers and where residents and other interested parties meet.
