Scheepvaarthuis (Shipping House)

The Scheepvaarthuis (Shipping House) is considered a masterpiece of the “Amsterdamse School” architectural style. It was built between 1912 and 1916 by architect Van der Mey, to be used as a head office by Amsterdam’s most prominent shipping companies. The interior is extraordinarily beautiful, featuring works by Krop, Kramer and De Klerk, among other artists.

The Scheepvaarthuis is now home to the stunning Grand Hotel Amrâth Amsterdam. Even if you don’t book a room, you can stop by for lunch, afternoon tea or a drink at the hotel bar to admire the interior design. You can also indulge in a delicious dinner at Seven Seas, the hotel’s restaurant. The Amsterdamse Schools experts from Het Schip museum offer guided tours of the Scheepvaarthuis every Sunday in combination with lunch or high tea.
