Free use of Amsterdam's public transport
The I amsterdam City Card includes public transport. First using your card to check in on a GVB bus, tram or metro will activate your card. Simply tap your card against the card reader when you get on. Don't forget to check out when you depart. After activation, the card is valid for 24, 48, 72, 96 or 120 hours, depending on the duration of the card of your choice.
- The City Card is also valid on night buses. Trams and metros stop running after 00:30.
- The City Card is only valid for the municipal GVB bus, tram and metro lines in Amsterdam. Connexxion, R-net and other regional buses, as well as NS train services, are not included.
- Locations that offer discounts with the City Card (rather than free entry) will not activate your card.
Train travel from the airport
Train travel is not included with the City Card, such as the journey from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to Amsterdam Central Station. Instead, you can purchase additional public transport tickets such as the Amsterdam Travel Ticket, or the Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket, which is a great way to explore the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area.
