Getting to Haarlem

Getting to Haarlem from Amsterdam is a piece of cake. It’s quick and easy to get there using public transport.

Haarlem is a beautiful city that's just a short hop from Amsterdam. Most of the major attractions are within walking distance of Station Haarlem. Still, if you'd like to save some time, buses also depart from directly outside the train station, taking you deeper into the city centre in minutes.

By train

Trains from Amsterdam Central Station to the beautiful Haarlem Central Station run numerous times an hour (departing from track 2b or 4 and stopping at Amsterdam Sloterdijk station along the way). The journey takes around 20 minutes. The last train to and from Haarlem departs around 01:00. You can plan your trip using the journey planner on the NS website or Google Maps (if you also want help getting to one of the main train stations). Trains run until 01:00.

By bus

  • If you find yourself closer to the Elandsgracht area, you might be just as quick taking bus 80 from the Elandsgracht bus station to Haarlem. The journey takes about 40 minutes. If you exit at the Houtplein Stop you will be right at the bottom of the main shopping area and a five-minute walk from various cultural attractions.
  • There is also the quick 346 bus from Amsterdam Zuid to Haarlem Central Station. The journey takes about 40 minutes.
  • Night buses also depart to and from Schipol Airport.
