Honig Breethuis

The Honig Breethuis is located Gortershoek, a charming neighbourhood just across the river from the Zaanse Schans. The house was built around 1710 by Cornelis Jacobsz for a wealthy merchant and his family. The beautiful period interior gives an excellent impression of the life in the Zaan area hundreds of years ago. In addition to being a museum, the Honig Breethuis also hosts concerts, lectures and other special events.

Jutters Mu-ZEE-um

Beachcombing used to be part of everyday life for the residents of Zandvoort. It was a way of making extra money. Nowadays, beachcombing is more of a hobby, with interesting finds being made on a daily basis. The Jutters Mu-ZEE-um has these beautiful and unique artefacts.

The Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen brings to life the stories of people who used to live around the former Zuiderzee. See, hear, feel, taste and smell daily life around the Zuiderzee before the Afsluitdijk turned this sea into a lake - the IJsselmeer -in 1932.

Outdoor Museum
Stroll along the cobbled streets of the Outdoor Museum and go back in time! With over 140 historic buildings from places in the former Zuiderzee region, the Outdoor Museum is a village of its own. Visit the post office, meet residents from the former island of Urk and give a hand with old crafts. 

Indoor Museum
The Indoor Museum is the treasure house of the Zuiderzee; here the various collections are presented with a modern approach. Dive into a 'Sea of Stories' and experience life on the former Zuiderzee in this interactive exhibition. Also admire the large collection of historic boats in the Ships' Hall.

De Burcht / Nationaal Vakbondsmuseum (Trade Union Museum)

De Burcht is the oldest trade union building in the whole of the Netherlands. This impressive structure was designed by Hendrik Petrus Berlage in 1899, and was commissioned by the Algemeene Nederlandsche Diamantwerkers Bond (ANDB). At the time, the ANDB (diamond workers union) was the country’s largest and richest trade union.

The Zaanse Schans offers a glimpse into the main heyday of the Zaan region before the Industrial Revolution. The original aim of the construction of the Zaanse Schans was to preserve the traditional timber construction of the Zaan region, which is reflected in the beautiful historic village. The Electric Museum Tram Line revives the past with a unique collection of historic trams. The trams have been restored, and you can actually ride them both in the centre of Amsterdam and on the landmark Haarlemmermeer railway line.

Appie Baantjer Museum

Appie Baantjer was a well-known Dutch detective and author whose life and works later formed the basis for “Baantjer”, a popular Dutch television programme. Café Heffer in Amsterdam’s Warmoesstraat hides a small museum dedicated to Baantjer. The upper level still serves as a bar, but the basement houses a permanent exhibition dedicated to Baantjer. You can visit this museum free of charge.

Wevershuis

Discover everything there is to know about the traditional Dutch craft of sailcloth and windmill cloth weaving at the Weaver’s House at Zaanse Schans. You can take a seat behind the loom, grab some rest in the box bed and meet the weavers in their traditional costume. The Weaver’s House served as a weaving mill until the start of the twentieth century. In 2015, the house was reconstructed. It also houses a shop filled with unique gifts.

Vereniging Museumhaven (Harbour Museum Society)

The Vereniging Museumhaven (Harbour Museum Society) is a sheltered port area in Amsterdam where 20 historical ships are docked. On the quays, old shipyard equipment is also on display. A complimentary brochure is available to accompany your walk down the quay.

At the Open Space Contemporary Art Museum (OSCAM) on the Bijlmerplein you will find a place where art, fashion, design and craftsmanship in the Bijlmer come together. It is a museum in the Amsterdamse Poort shopping center in the Zuidoost district. They are located in the old Cool Cat building, diagonally opposite the KFC, between the Panda Bubble Tea Bar and Hunkemöller. You understand, between the fast food chicken, Instagram drinks and sexy lingerie, there is of course a great need for art and culture.
