Industrial area

The Zaan region was one of the world's first industrial areas. Hundreds of windmills produced linseed oil, paint, snuff tobacco, mustard, paper, and wood processing. While strolling through the heritage village, you will encounter various craftsmen, such as tin casting, a craft still practised entirely by hand. At the Weaver's House, the manufacture of large sails and mill cloth is demonstrated. At the Coopery, you will learn how wooden tubs and barrels were made. The stories behind these crafts bring to life the heyday of the Zaanse manufacturing industry. Visit one of the working windmills. The creaking and moving mechanism driven by the wind provides an impressive sight.

This card gives you access to 7 museums/crafts and two mills of your choice. The Zaanse Schans is a unique Dutch heritage and is, without a doubt, a destination not to be missed on your bucket list.

The Zaanse Schans is open daily. Museums and mills are open ranging from 09:00 - 17:00. Museums closed on 25 December and 1 January.
