Romeo and Juliet – but not the way you expect

I Capuleti e Montecchi tells the famous love story of Romeo and Juliet, but in a very different way. Bellini based his opera not on Shakespeare, but on older, Italian sources. In this new production by director Tatjana Gürbaca, the emphasis is not on the romantic, impossible love between two young people, but on the spiral of violence, honor, and guilt from which no one can escape.
